What is Compounded Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) analog introduced in 2017 as a treatment method for improving glycemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide shows great promise for patients who are having difficulty losing weight. We offer Compounded Semaglutide manufactured in an FDA 503(b) regulated facility.
Studies have demonstrated that Semaglutide reduced appetite, improved control of eating, and reduced food cravings in addition to improved glycemic control. The greatest weight loss benefits were observed when Semaglutide is used in combination with lifestyle changes, such as improved diet and consistent exercise.

How does Semaglutide work?

Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist that increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion, decreases inappropriate glucagon secretion, slows gastric emptying; also acts in the areas of the brain involved in regulation of appetite and caloric intake.

Are there any side effects?

As with other GLP-1 receptor agonists, adverse effects GI effects are common; the major adverse effects are gastrointestinal, including nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. In weight loss trials, these adverse effects were generally mild to moderate and, for most patients, improved over time.

Is Semaglutide right for me?

Semaglutide is contraindicated during pregnancy and in patients with a personal history of pancreatitis or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia 2A or 2B. In addition, for patients taking semaglutide concurrent with insulin or an insulin secretagogue (e.g., a sulfonylurea), blood glucose should be monitored, and a dose reduction in the insulin or the sulfonylurea may be necessary to avoid hypoglycemia. Rare cases of angioedema and anaphylaxis have been reported with semaglutide. Patients with diabetic retinopathy should be monitored for complications.
